Size Matters

Can I get some feedback on Frenchie stature? Our guy - although pick of the litter and a beefy pup - seems to be on the smallish size. He is 7-months-old and about 19 pounds and shorter than many Frenchies I have seen recently. What is the typical size range? Is there an optimum?

You can go to the AKC website. I am not sure how tall they should be, but I know they should be no more then 28 lbs

Good idea. He is currently 20 lbs at 7 months. I think he should have reached his full height if not weight at this age.

really it depends on the lines - Belzie had reached her final height (11.5 inches at the front shoulders) by 10 months. When Sam was 13 months he hurt his shoulder and we did ex-rays - they showed that his growth plates had not even begun to close and the specialist told us he would probably grow another 2 cm. He is almost 24 months and stopped at 15" at the front shoulders. Sam is from European lines and way too big to meet AKC or CKC standards - good thing he is a companion pet.

I believe the AKC does not have standards for height - but the breed average is 12 inches at the front shoulder. So I ended up with one below average and one way over average.
